MAC Disney Maleficent Collection For Summer 2014

Mysterious, magnificent and much misunderstood – Disney’s most iconic villain, brought to life this summer in the epic new film, “Maleficent,” inspires a limited-edition colour collection in specially designed packaging to delight the most demanding of dark sorceresses. Intensely admired for her evil elegance, despite her efforts to instill fear in the hearts of generations, this icon casts a spell of absolute adoration with sensuous shades for eyes, face, lips and nails so wickedly gorgeous, who needs beauty sleep?
“Maleficent,” the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from “Sleeping Beauty,” reveals the events that hardened Maleficent’s heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora. The film stars Angelina Jolie and opens in theaters this summer.

Now I must admit, I have never been a big MAC fan. Part of it is the abysmal track record of their nail polishes. So inconsistent. Part is that the eyeshadows I just find to be subpar. I find many drugstore brands make as good if not better, and I find them to not be able to compare to the higher end brands. I simply see the brand (for the most part) as a stepladder or intermediate step between drugstore and high end and fail to see the necessity of such a level of makeup in my stash.

That being said, I have a few odd items from them (a lipstick and a blush) that I like and use. I think another big part of my disdain of the brand is the vast quantity of collections. I have always thought there to be simply too many. I would rather half as many collections with products that Temptalia and others can always give an A+ to, then the giant mix of As/Bs/Cs and Ds that it currently gets. This collection seems to be just another issue. The majority of it is permanent items simply repackaged in to limited edition packaging. Just seems lazy to me.

I would love your feedback though. Are there items I am missing out on? Do you feel the same way I do? Are there items I should certainly try? Let me warn you, I am lighter than NW15 and none of the foundations work for me, nor does any of the skincare agree with my skin.

  1. I like the look of the red nail polish, could be good?

  2. I feel the same way about MAC. I think they're massively overhyped....especially considering the Australian prices we pay (Currently $34 aussie dollars for a MAC lipstick!). Also their collections constantly being released aren't exciting anymore. 4 collections full of new and different products would be so much more interesting than repackaged products every month.

With that being said... I'm excited by this collection. I'll be picking up the lip products!
