Thrift Store Finds!

I recently had a PM from someone asking if I still thrifted, and if so, when a new post would be coming up. I know that the past little bit has been more in the lines of absurd shoe purchases and dresses, but the short answer is yes, I do still thrift. I don't think I will ever stop. I also feel a little more justified when I splurge on a $400 pair of shoes or a $300 purse when I know that the majority of the rest of my wardrobe cost pennies. So anyways, yes, I do still thrift, I just have not had a chance or the time  the past few months with all the travelling, functions and Jewish Holidays.

So I made a special effort last week to FIND time. And here are my results. It has been suggested that I show me actually wearing the clothing, so I will do my best to show more shots of me in the clothing as well. 

Value Village finds:

This top that is totally sheer and looks shapeless on the hanger I actually really like. It was $4.99:

These two cardigans were $3,99 each and both will be perfect with a simple pencil skirt.

This Hugo Boss long sleeve shirt was $3.99 and is perfect to wear underneath things!

This is just a cozy comfy sweater that was 3.99 and just to soft and comfy to pass up.

Goodwill Finds:

This blouse was 3.50 but all blue tags were 60% off. That means it was only $1.60. For that price I had to get it! It would have been better in a size 8 than a size 10, but it still works. 

This Calvin Klein Blazer. It was $5 and it SHOULD have been 60% off and thus $2, but the tag fell off while I was trying it on. The store has a policy that if a tag falls off it AUTOMATICALLY goes to regular price. I totally understand, and $5 is still a fabulous deal for a $150 blazer, but GRR!!! So yeah, $5!

Now this blazer WAS $5. And for a Michael Michael Kors blazer, it was a no brainer. The fact that it fit me perfectly? Icing on the cake!

Thrift Store Finds!

So it has been awhile since my last thrift shop outing. I rant in to Winners to see if they by chance had a dark denim maxi skirt. I know the odds of finding something that specific at Winners or TJ Maxx are slim to none, but I figured it was worth a shot. As expected, no luck! So instead I ran next door to the salvation army to see if I could have any luck there. And wow! Talk about a good thrift day!

The first thing I found was this brand new with tags Madewell top! Its a 100% silk front and sleeves and a jersey knit  back. I thought when I purchased it that it was polka dots, but its tiny hearts instead. While not a heart person, they are small and subtle enough that I am not really bothered by this. 

THEN........ I find not one, but two perfect denim maxi skirts. Most of you all know by now I dont wear pants. EVER. And so a denim maxi skirt for me is my version of denim. But its near impossible to find (mainly because I am so fussy). In three years I have found 2 that I like, and that is not in thrift stores. That is simply three denim skirts total that I have and they are all so worn out its embarrassing. So it was very exciting to find two!

Oh! And the best part? No item cost more than $5.99!

Why I Thrift!

So I get ribbed a bit by my friends (some of them!) because they don't understand my thrifting. They would understand if I was very cheap all around, but they can not understand how I can be unwilling to spend $30 on a tshirt but have no problem throwing it down for a bottle of nail polish or a lipstick. Its contradictory to them. I personally do not see a contradiction. For me its about quality. I have no problem spending $30 on a top. I have a problem spending thirty cents on something that is not of decent quality. I do not understand why or when it suddenly became acceptable to make a wool skirt or pair of slacks without a lining. When did that happen? WHY?? I think we can all agree that the quality of clothes has gone so far downhill its not something that can even be debated. I am NOT ok with that. And to buy QUALITY now usually means spending FAR too much money on high end designers. Insert thrifting.

So this dress breaks all my thrifting rules. I do not buy anything that is:

• synthetic materials
• mass produced from stores such as walmart, target, old navy, etc.
• for skirts and dresses - fully lined
• stained, ripped, torn
• does not fit me PERFECTLY - I need to accept that I am NOT going to get anything hemmed, altered or tailored. And I will get clothing that fits me five pounds from now WHEN IM 5 POUNDS FROM NOW. I will dress the body I have NOW. 

So this dress is synthetic AND from Old Navy. But its fully lined and even though I HATE pink, it kind of called my name. I figured I would try it on just to settle my curiosity and be done with it. But it fit PERFECTLY! And it was lined, AND I had a function to go to this weekend that it would be perfect for. And with the $6.40 price tag, this is me today:

Then, as I was walking out of the store look what was being put out:

These shoes are BRAND new (well, Ive worn them twice since I got them!!) and were....... are you ready for this?? $4.50!! Yup, for Cole Haan leather mules.

And that is why I thrift!!!

Great Silk Scarves At Great Thrift Prices!

So up until recently I was a scarf virgin. I really didn't "do scarves" at all. But I have been slowly coming around and after my first attempts at scarf shopping yielded me a great YSL scarf and a great Liberty Of London one I was energized. Now its one of the first places I look. I have not had much luck since that weekend until recently. I am not sure how or why I forgot to post these, but look what I found? And they were 60% off!!! 60 cents each for two GREAT scarves!!

I love both of them and am happy to add them to my wardrobe!!!

New Purses

I know I am SO very far behind on my posting. And I am still only halfway through my New York trip and have shown you none of the beauty products and only half the thrift. And yet, here we go with a more current post of some of my recent purses.

I've never been a fan of Coach bags. Part of it is I am not a big fan of logo purses of any sorts. LV, Gucci, Coach, Dooney & Burke, and others like them don't do it for me. I also am not a fan of nylon bags. Nylon Prada bags seem so popular and show up now and then at thrift stores. I think they look cheap. I KNOW that Prada is not cheap. I know many people like them. I never have. As obsessed with cartoon monkeys as I am (Paul Frank monkeys as an example) I have never gotten on board with Kipling bags. Le Sport Sac bags are cute, but not me. They just aren't my cup of tea.

So this feels REALLY bizarre showing you my newest bag finds and knowing one is a printed Nylon bag and another is a Coach bag! I guess you never know what will get your attention!

So this bag I could use some help with! I have NO IDEA anything about it. It is a Nicole Miller (NOT Nicole for Nicole Miller) and I LOVE the pattern on it. I love the size, shape and feel of the bag. And the strap seems to be real leather. It at least FEELS like real leather. The pattern is really funky, not at ALL me, but I love it! And for 4.99 and 10% off it was great to get a bag that was completely unlike anything I already have.

This bag I am not sure WHAT I was thinking when I found it. Brand new with a dustbag might have clouded my judgement as its NOT me and I am unlikely to use it. It is a brand new David Jones bag. Nothing exciting, not real leather, and for a $90 bag, I think I overpaid at 4.99 and 10% off. I guess we all have our moments of stupidity.

I do like the lining however!

Now this is the Matt & Nat Rev bag in linen and apple green. It is one of my favorite summer bags. I have had it for 3 years or so and paid 89.99 at winners for it at the time. Its retail was 285 I think. I still love it 3 years later and still wear it so I guess it was worth the cost.

Which is probably why I love this bag I happened to find at Salvation Army!

Not only from the very same collection, but also the same colour palette. I almost left it behind for that reason. I really have no need for two of the EXACT same colour bag but I really do think its super cute, a completely different shape and size, and I just couldn't leave it behind!

Now this bag, the minute I felt it I KNEW it had to come home with me. Its such an amazing AMAZING leather! And when I opened it up, imagine my surprise when I find out its a Coach Bag!

So I would like to present you all with my first ever Coach bag, the Chelsea Leather Field bag! Two tone brown leathers and no Coach label on the outside for ANYONE to see! Just a tiny gromet with the name typed on it but so small the lettering is not visible unless your face is directly in on it!
