Quo Back To Basics Palette VS Urban Decay Palette

So, when the lovely Aleksandra from Plumpish Beauty mentioned that she picked up the Back To Basics palette from Quo, the first think I asked her was how it compared to the Naked Palette. While she did not have the Urban Decay one, and I did not have the Quo one, we figured out how to compare them! So we got them together for a play date and I think I can safely say we were both SHOCKED at what we found!!

The Urban Decay one contains 12 full sized eyeshadows (1.3g each) and the Quo one contains a about 25% less product with 12 1g eyeshadows. But at half the price, it is still a cheaper palette. And since we as crazy beauty lovers tend to do, we rarely finish shadows, so I dont think the size difference matters much. At $25 vs a Canadian price of $60 (yes, it is a full $10 more expensive here!!) it is a steal!

And when we opened them up our jaws fell open. They'e basically IDENTICAL! Since Aleksandra had not yet swatched hers I wasn't about to swatch her shadows first, but they look like THE SAME PALETTE!!!

Here are the first four shadows (keep in mind my UD palette on the left has been very much used):

The next four:

The last four in the palette:

I am totally stunned. They look like the same palette. I am not sure how I feel about the idea that they basically copied the ENTIRE palette, right down to the full sized brush that comes inside. It seems kind of wrong to me. Kind of like beauty plagiarism. That being said, if they swatch well (we will have to wait for Aleksandra to swatch them) it is BY FAR the cheaper option for essentially the identical palette!

So I will be keeping a very close eye on the Plumpish Beauty Blog for her review of them! I hope you do too!

  1. Thanks for the shout out. I couldn't believe it..I tried really hard with the naked eye to pick out the differences and I couldn't. No pressure to get a review up, eh? :P I hope I can find another so I can host a giveaway!! It's just that exciting to me!

  3. I had a chuckle when I saw on the facebook page that the palettes went on a play date. Looking at both palettes here you can see they are almost identical. I agree if they end up being the same I think its wrong that QUO copied UD.

I mentioned to my sister when she came to town and asking what I wanted for Xmas I mentioned the QUO because it was cheaper then UD so she went on the hunt for it here in Montreal and couldn't find it and at her last Pharmaprix she was talking to the lady in cosmetics and she was told that the QUO palette isn't the same as the UD one, meaning the quality isn't the same and that she would honestly us and invest in UD so I will be curious to see Alesandra's post on this. In the end it worked me because she went and bought me the UD palette (#1) and a GC for #2.

  4. I've seen this and couldn't believe it either. My friend wanted neutrals and really liked the naked palette when I showed it to her, but couldn't justify the price. When I seen the Quo in stores, she bought it and as far as I know, she loves it.

This isn't the first palette that Quo has copied (to a T). They've also done I believe 3 palette from Kat Von D's line. Metal Orchestra, True Love and the last one I think is the Saint palette. Even have the creams that KVD had...
