Build Your Own Birchbox - My Box!

Since I was heading to the Bite Beauty Lab in soho, I felt like it would be INSANE NOT to  stop in the Birchbox store. They are a 3 minute walk away from each other (basically one is on Broadway and and Prince, and the other on Prince St) and it was windy and cold. So what else do you do but shop?

And you cant go to the Birchbox store and not build your own box! I feel safe in saying that there is a law about that somewhere. So who am I to break the rules? Now there obviously no detailed card with what is in each box since every box is entirely unique. But it comes with a little white blank Birchbox card.

And here is my box.

From the hair category I got the Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray. This is a big sample size and in fact is not really a sample but a travel size that retails for $10 on its own.

The skin category for me was a hard choice. I was torn between a few items. Turned out to be a really good thing because during the VIB Rouge private event I got the two Caudalie deluxe samples I was debating between! So I am happy I got the Real Chemistry Luminous 3 Minute Peel. The full size s $48 for 1.7oz so this little .17oz sample has a value of $4.80.

The makeup section was a bit of a let down for me. They had great samples, but none were shades that called my name. In the end I chose the Lierac Micellar Water. I feel its a fairly safe (yet boring) choice and for the most part, they are all close enough to the same that I can assume this will work well. Its also a good 50ml size Since the full sized bottle is $24 for 300ml that makes this a $4 value.

GRR! Perfume sample. I dont dislike this. I will start by saying that. But I would prefer NO perfume sample. That being said there was some good choices. And I almost got the Harvey Prince grapefruit perfume but just couldn't on principal choose a HP sample in my custom box. So I got this little spray bottle of Joie perfume. Its tiny (.06oz) and its value is equally tiny at $1.72. Which is hard to fathom how such expensive perfumes can have such little values. But when you are only getting a few drops of the perfume, I guess it makes sense.

And last but not least a beautiful purple Ruffian polish. Its got a $10 price tag on its own.

Overall, I have to say I am happy with the box. The cost was $15 (you pay a $5 premium to build your own box in store) but you KNOW you love every item. Or at least you know you want to TRY every item. So its only a $30.52 value, but I want every single item in the box!
