Rescue Beauty Lounge Aqua Lily - A Dead On DUPE!

Ok everyone! Here is a post that I bet you wouldn't expect from me! EVERYONE here knows that I think RBL is a four letter word. I think Ji (please note, these are my opinions and not facts) is one of the most immature, rude, and inappropriate business women I have ever come across, I think she is a terrible excuse for a person, and I have ZERO urge to help promote her line or brand in any way shape or form. If you are new to my blog and are shocked at these statements or wondering why I am saying that, just click on the rescue beauty lounge tag below this post or on my side bar and you can read all about it.

But anyways, if anyone's still lemming Aqua Lily, check out your local Gap! Meg took these pictures and while there might be some slight difference in the photos, in real life the polishes look exactly the same! The Gap polish in 'Bright Pool' is an exact dupe and better yet, the formula is good! Two coats for full coverage. The best part is quite possibly the cost - $6 (and currently on sale for 40% off.)

So while I am not big on posting polishes from Ji (even if they are pretty - which I must admit many of her polishes are. I had quite a few before I gave em all away), when I can steer you all towards a perfect dupe at a great price, Im all for it!

Aqua Lily is on Meg's index finger, Bright Pool on her middle.

Ji Baek of Rescue Beauty Lounge - The Face of her Company.

In an earlier post I stated that I was not prepared to give MY money to a company that had the customer service of Rescue Beauty Lounge. I had very negative experiences personally, and they were never addressed. I mentioned things I'd seen but went into little detail as the point of the post was not to BASH RBL. I gave away all my RBL polishes, but never through them out. I have never suggested that people should not support them, just that I wont.

Until NOW. The story goes (and this is what I had heard, not fact) that a woman posted swatches of a new BIB polish she bought and wanted opinions as she thought the colour was not the same as the original.  The complaints were not complaints more as they were questions. And never were they brought to Ji. Again, this is NOT fact, though it seems to be substantiated enough through screenshots and info others have shown me.

Now on to the FACT. Ji posted on her facebook page RIP BIB. She stated she had been accused of selling a mismatched colour (in comparison to the original) and since she hates drama, she is cancelling all BIBs present and future. HUH?????????????? Because of one complaint you are cancelling such a big campaign that brings in a massive chunk of your bottom line? It made NO SENSE to me. NONE. And if it really hurt her so much (and the only way I could see it hurting her so much if it was one accusation was if it was accurate and an ongoing issue she was having behind the scenes) and she hates drama, why would she blame it on a customers unhappiness? I replied on the thread (this is DIRECT copy and paste)

" I find this ridiculous. If we are to believe you, you are cancelling all future BIBs because ONE person claims the colour is different? REALLY? I think its Immature and ridiculous to react to ONE accusation that way. And if that really is the reason, why bring it to everyones attention. Talk about creating drama. This company does nothing BUT create drama. You could have nicely and maturely announced that this will be your last BIB and you have chosen to make your limited edition colours TRULY limited edition, yet once again you chose the immature and drama laden path and pull this."

I really found it offensive to the person who had the issue to be the public reason why she was cancelling the BIB and felt the need to stick up for her - though I have no idea who the girl is in real life.

I proceded to be ATTACKED!! It started with THIS twitter comment from ji herself.

Now what does she mean be outed? The last person that disagreed with her publicly had all her personal info published by Ji on the RBL page. So I asssumed some private info was about to come. Turns out she was just announcing me as the writer of this blog! I am FINE with that.

"Hello and welcome. I most welcome all new fans, it seems this thread is out of control however. Shayna (AKA Polishjinxs) thank you for gracing us with your presence, as far as I know you have been  badmouthing me amd my company for awhile even though I did reply to yoru emails - you even vow to give away yoru RBL polishes to our fans here. Why do you care about the BIB vote then? And although I welcome new bees here always, it seems to me lurkign from afar and jumping in when there is sa negative feed is not what this community is about. I'm not perfect by any  means and please I'm not all of you -human! Not a PR droid! XXX Thats all!!

Now what about this thread is out of hand? That I suggested that your comment was immature and drama creating? That makes the thread out of control? And one post saying I personally won't use the brand any more is my badmouthing her and the brand? Maybe a bit, but REALLY???? And yes, she replied to my email, a month after my blog post. It apologized for NOT replying and told me I should have come back to have the polish fixed up. REALLY? Not I'm sorry it chipped so badly so quickly. It instead blamed me for not taking 3-4 hours out of my day to go back to the meatpacking district to get it fixed up? Any ways, no Ji, I don't think you are perfect or need to be. Just professional. So I state this. I do not appreciate being told that I am trolling just to jump.

The suggestion that she make a personal facebook page for herself, and keep the RBL company one a professional one hit a nerve!

"And which media agency to do you work for? Have you ever owned a company? Why do all company Facebook have to be boring cookie cutter--? And your credibility is from? I'm different and this is who I am! If you Don't like my company and this page why are you here? Every negative comments I see int he cyber world is you - yes, I do my research and no-- I rather close my company than be a broing one like everyone else! This is me - want to change me? Open your your very own company! Criticism is the easiest thing to do- to live, breathe and run a company for past 13 years however- is something! Still standing and making colors! You were the inspiration for my announcement nexxt week - for that I think you!"

Wow. I am the only one badmouthing her company on all the internet - shes researched it! (and by badmouthing I guess she is referring to my one blog post. And why did I still follow her page? Maybe I was hoping I would be won back by a mature attitude that I guess now I know will never come. And she IS still standing. She couldn't afford to keep her spa running (and having been there - I know why!!) and she constantly states she cant afford to have promotions and sales and make a profit, but yes, she is still here an still alienating customers.

"I can't get personal but you can? Thats really unfair! Why because this is my company fb? Look at this wall sweeties, we call each other by first names and we discuss everything under the sun. last thing I will do is pimp my own products! I never deneid to state your opion as you are denying to never state my emotions and my opinions becuase "this is RBL facebook wall" and if I do - I'm imature, unproffesional drama queen. THanks Shayna!"

She just doesn't get that no one was attacking her. But fine. Someone right afterwords (not me called her out on her REAL reasons for cancelling the BIB. They pointed out the complaint was not a real complaint, was on a private board, and that she merely wanted to move the BIB to her own private forum she was building. So much for NOT deleting posts or threads. IMMEDIATELY deleted .

But thats not the end unfortunately. She stated that I had inspired her big new announcement. And she makes it.

A new thread where she can monitor, delete and bounce any members who disagree with her. Since Ji stated in black and white I was the reason behind the announcement (wow! HOW MUCH POWER OVER JI DO I APPARENTLY HAVE??) I had to come find out why I inspired all of this.

I feel justified in being offended that she called me a troll. I was never rude, and her tantrum was ridiculous. Her response? She deleted the comments and blocked me from every posting on the page again. But some people wont let her forget that she blamed my 2 month old post for this new forum she started working on six months ago. It also means she NEVER planned on getting rid of BIBs just wanted to do it behind closed doors. So it was nothing more than crying for attention and drama.

Finally!!! How much back and forth and someone's accusations of screen shots before she finally admits shes a liar and she said it, she just did not mean it. And why is it that her ReBels as she likes to call them constantly begs her to delete all negative posts?

I know Ji thinks that I have something personal against her. I have a hidden agenda she has stated and I want her to fail. Now I have no hidden agenda. I love polish, and want her to grow up, put on her big girl panties and act like an adult. I see now that it is never going to happen. But why on earth would I WANT her to fail? It makes no sense. I do however hope people will think twice if this is who they want to support. Maybe that is the only way for her to grow up and realize that she needs to change.

If a piece of constructive criticism can warrant a temper tantrum of this magnitude, she is in the wrong business.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Teal & Julep Jamie Swatches & Comparisons

I have so many blues and purples in  my stash, I honestly thought it would be a PIECE OF CAKE to find dupes of my Julep blues and purples. But I was wrong. Julep Jamie is such a beautiful shade, but very unique in my stash. The closest I had was Rescue Beauty Lounge Teal.

As you can see, RBL Teal is much darker. Probably a good 3-4 shades darker and has more of a green hint to it than the Julep one. Julep Jamie was part of the Summer 2011 collection and is described as  an ultra-saturated, dark turquoise. It seems to be sold out, but since it was taken down due to being part of last months maven box, it might be just not back on the website yet.

HELP ME GO GREEN!!!

So I have started to completely and properly organize my polish collection. I have started a spreadsheet that lists Brand, Name, Colour, Finish, Tried vs Untried and Collection the polish is from. I am now also swatching all my polishes, both on wheels by brand, and wheels by colour. I will then log in the spreadsheet what wheels the colours are on.

Cheeky Monkey Lucky U, Rescue Beauty Lounge Orbis Non Sufficit, Lippmann Billionaire, Le Metier De Beaute Athena, Chanel Peridot, Illamasqua Viridian, Color Club Rule Breaker, Lippmann Don't Tell Mama, Nars Night Porter
Anyways, today I went to swatch my green polishes, and look at this!! Thats it! Thats not my second or third wheel! THATS MY ONLY ONE!!! I have no greens! How is that possible? I am starting number 4 for purples, 3 for grey/silver/black. but only 9?? How?!!! WHAT????!!!!
SO I NEED YOUR HELP!!! PLEASE RECOMMEND YOUR FAVORITE GREEN! KEEP IN MIND IN GENERAL I DON'T WEAR DRUGSTORE OR SALON BRAND POLISHES!! ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE APPRECIATED!

Cheeky Monkey Lucky U, Rescue Beauty Lounge Orbis Non Sufficit, Lippmann Billionaire, Le Metier De Beaute Athena, Chanel Peridot, Illamasqua Viridian, Color Club Rule Breaker, Lippmann Don't Tell Mama, Nars Night Porter
Here is an up close look at my green polishes. Certainly has a  LOT of room to grow and improve THIS collection!!

Beware!! Long Rant Ahead!!

As anyone who knows me can attest to, I am obsessed with polish. Not only am I obsessed with polish, but I stay loyal too the brands I love. I may grumble when a price hike comes around or grumble that I pay 20-40% more than Americans simply since I don't live in the united states. The fact that some brands are not available here and REFUSE to ship to me no matter how much I beg them (illamasqua and le metier de beaute I'm looking at YOU!) still doesn't put me off. At least enough to stop jumping through hoops to get them.

Congrats to RESCUE BEAUTY LOUNGE!! You have done what no other brand has ever done. Ticked me off to the point where I will NOT under any circumstances purchase you. It matters not how pretty colours may be. Mismas and 360 may have been the longest residers of my wish list but they are now off my list. Your conceit, lack of customer service, immature behavior and bullying of people is insane. I have never seen a company act or behave in the manner you have and I am done. As much as I like your colours I refuse to support you a moment longer.

I will not get into or explain the bullying. If anyone saw the girl selling a massive lot of polish on eBay, or reads the purse forum rbl thread regularly then you have seen for yourself. If not, you can read the thread in the purse forum nail polish sub forum on rbl and get the gist.

I will however describe MY experience. In late April I was in NYC and made a point of going to the rescue beauty lounge with a girlfriend. I was so excited. They were sold out of every polish on my wish list so I was out of luck in that regard, though I managed to buy a few polishes. I chose Catherine H as my manicure of choice and my girlfriend chose scrangie.

Thiswas the worst thing we could have done. Seeing as they were unavailable and we didn't have them no touch ups could be done. We sat at a long table beside each other while our manicures were done. We were surprised to not see dryers anywhere but ok. Shrugs. Ji knows best. We are told to sit there for twenty minutes while our nails dry. Really??? Fine. There are two of us so we can chat! 25 minutes later our manicurists come back put some quick dry drops on our nails and tell us to wait a couple minutes and we are done. We pay - more than I've ever paid for a manicure before but again, it's the rescue beauty lounge and we knew the price going in. We hop a cab to times square and grab a lunch of felafel and shwarma. Yum. And by time our lunch is done we each have at least 3 chips in our nails. And of course neither of us can touch up our nails!!! Eek!

I later tweeted that I was somewhat turned off by the company. Rescue beauty lounge actually tweets back to ask why. I responded with an unhappy spa experience and that I will email them what happened. And guess what? I never ever hear from them again. Not even an I'm sorry. Nothing.

I hope others enjoy the beauty of storms and hurricanes in the new collection (gather not a lot of people from New Orleans are jumping on THAT marketing campaign). I'm done with the brand and the company.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Teal

So someone recently mentioned to me that they wanted RBL's Teal. It is described as "Remember that perfect greenish blue Lanvin bag that you hesitated to buy in Paris and have regretted ever since? Well, if you can’t have that gorgeous shade in your hand, have it on your nails." Now I"ll be completely honest. My entire intent in posting this was to prove just how easy it was to find a dupe and convince her NOT to get this polish. I have been slightly turned off the brand as of late and wish I could just walk away from Ji and her brand of polish. I just cant though. There are too many colours I am dying for and they are just too unique. So anyways, on to the swatches!!
Now considering just how many blues, teals and turquoises I had i figured this would be easy as pie. NOPE!! Not a single one. The closest two I had were Illamasqua's Muse and Dior's Nirvana.
Rescue Beauty Lounge Teal, Illamasqua Muse, Dior Nirvana

Rescue Beauty Lounge Teal, Illamasqua Muse, Dior Nirvana

As you can see, neither of them are even close! Teal is just so much darker and richer. It is definitely a unique colour you must own if you are a lover of Teal. As I am. Here are some pics of the swatches. I must tell you I learned a valuable lesson. If you are going to take the pictures outdoors to get true colour shots, make sure the polishes are COMPLETELY dry first, otherwise the wind blows dust and makes a mess of the swatches like I learned the hard way.

Cult Nails Inaugural Collection

New nail polish brands pop up all the time. That’s not new. What is new (for me at least) is when a new brand proves itself to be both HIGH QUALITY and CREATIVE. Welcome Cult Nails. I would never have heard of this brand before if not for other obsessed nail polish lovers. It is the creation of nail blogger R3 Daily (aka Maria Morrison). Now being the high quality that they are they are all 3 Free (meaning free of  Toulene, Formaldehyde and Dibutyl).
But they aren’t just 3 free. They are also free of Phthalate or Camphor. Other big perks with the company are that they are cruelty free, dont test on animals, or use derivatives that are animal byproducts or tested on animals.
What I like most about them though is the “cotton ball initiative” Taken directly from thier website
“All polish is Vegan friendly. In keeping with our green initiatives all packaging is recyclable and some even reusable.  We use only recycled boxes to ship our polish that can be reused or recycled by the consumer and utilize cotton balls for our packaging materials. This not only allows the polish to be protected during shipment, but supplies our customers with some of the materials  needed to remove their old polish once our product arrives! The cotton ball initiative, as we like to call it, was a concept from Maria’s 12 year old daughter.”

Brilliant job on the daughters part!!!

my kind of kool-aid, iconic, living water, quench

Now onto the colours!
Quench would be in my opinion the most dupe-able and least original of the bunch. Not a boring colour in any ways, just a classic red.  Looking through my stash, I found about 4 others that looked like possible dupes. So to sum up quench, a classic red. Nothing earth shattering or innovative, but just a gorgeous basic red.

quench, estee lauder enchanted garnet, laura mercier daring, dior red tea, deborah lippmann lady is a tramp
Now for My Kind of Kool-Aid. It is described as “gravender”, creme polish with a delicate shimmer”. Seeing as I own about 45 different purples I thought of course I have a dupe in my collection! But I was very very wrong!  As you can see, the closest is Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Insouciant. The base colours are very similar but the shimmer is very different.

My Kind of Kool Aid, Illamasqua Stagnate, Butter London Scoundrel, Rescue Beauty Lounge Insouciant

The most original of the bunch is by far Living Water. I have NOTHING like it in my stash. There were a few Lippmanns that I thought might be similar but NONE! Its described as “deep blue jelly polish with ice blue and emerald green glitter inspired by the phosphorescent sea-water.” The base is a dark Navy almost black with blue, teal and green micro glitter. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cult Nails Living Water

Now The Last one in the collection is Iconic. Cult Nails describes it as “deep berry creme with gorgeous red flakes and hidden gold shimmer throughout.” Once more I have nothing very similar in my stash. The best I could Compare it to is Since I fell for you, though as you can see, very different.

Deborah Lippmann Since I fell for You, Cult Nails Iconic

All in all I think it is an excellent collection. The polishes are all high quality and have always lasted me with minor tip wear at least 3 days (trust me. in my life it doesn’t get better than 3 days. I also change my polish 3-4 times a week usually). Most of my friends who have this polish can get a good 5-6 days out of it before chipping. And the best part? They are only 10.00!!!!!! Much more affordable than other cult brands (no pun intended!)!!!!!! And they ship to Canada. Whats better than that???
