The Dress Hunt Comes To A Happy End

So I had a day off and met a friend for a full on thrift store dress hunt! I normally HATE Value Village. I think the prices are INSANE. Used clothing should be cheap. And I prefer when the money goes to charity. Value Village does NEITHER! They SAY proceeds go to the Diabetes Association, but in truth, only about one percent of sales go there. And more often than not it is cheaper to buy something at the original store on final clearance rather than pay Value Village's exorbitant prices. But I had a 50% off my purchase coupon so off I went! I stopped by the store closest to me and found the following:

My Cost 6.50

My Cost 6.50

My Cost 3.00

My Cost 3.50

My Cost 1.50

My Cost 1.50

My Cost 4.00

My Cost 5.00

My Cost 5.00

My Cost 4.00

My Cost 4.00

My Cost 4.00

My Total Cost 48.50!!!

But if you will notice, I got no dresses! EEK! Now the cashier there was a total witch with a B. She tried to refuse to sell me a couple items either because the size was missing on the tag or because it said S/M/L/XL on tops that were actually sized with 10, 12 etc. Apparently if the size doesn't match they are not allowed to sell the item. PERIOD. Not they have to reprice it. They wont sell it that day at all. I calmly pointed out that ALL blouses in the store were sized with S/M/L even if they had numbers. ALL OF THEM. She refused to budge. I asked to speak to a manager. She said no. The manager wouldn't do anything. I calmly went over to another associate and explained to her the issue and she offered to get the manager. I got everything.

Now not only was the cashier a jerk, she forgot to take my 50% coupon even though she applied it. She accidentally handed it back to me with my receipt! So I decided (or justified to myself) that it was my reward for dealing with such a jerk! So my girlfriend and I crossed town to head to a different location with the 50% off coupon still in tow!

Take Two!

My Cost 3.50

My Cost 2.50

My Cost 4.00

My Cost 3.00

And the truly exciting thing:

This dress I think I can totally make work as a cocktail dress! With red heels (I don't currently own!), the perfect Matt & Nat clutch in my closet and great jewellery I already know which function I am wearing it too!

My Cost 5.00

This dress is also PERFECT! Fits perfectly, perfect for one of my functions, and I already have the shoes and accessories I need for it!

My Cost 4.00

Now this was the dress that really hit me hard! A USED dress (ok, it was brand new and still had the original 90.00 price tag attached to it) for 40.00?? Are you flipping kidding me? The reason I HATE Value Village. But for religious reasons I dont wear anything that doesnt cover at least to my elbows, and only wear skirts below the knee and this dress was PERFECT. Fits like it was made for me, I do NOT need to get a shawl or cardigan to make it work, and will take me so far. If I had not had a 50% off I probably would have passed simply on principle.

My Cost 20.00!!

My Total Cost 42.00!!!

Now I actually have clothing to wear to work! For the last two days I have actually not had to try on 20 different outfits to find something that fit well enough to get away with wearing to work. I have purged my closet and finally, finally, finally have clothes that FIT and are work appropriate! And yes. I live in suit skirts or suits along with a blouse and cardigan. It is basically my ONLY look. On the weekend/days off my look changes to a denim skirt with a fitted T and a hoodie. Every so often I go crazy and wear a dress and cardigan or dress and blazer to work. One day maybe I will expand my style.

The grand total was 90.50 spent between the two hauls for a total of 1674.00 worth of merchandise which is 95% off!!!

And I have decided to alter my big gorgeous satin ball gown skirt that I paid waaaay too much money for 13 years ago and wear that for the missing formal dress.

DRESS SHOPPING DONE!!!!

  1. You have a horrible sense of fashion. Everything you bought is hideous and outdated--circa 1990's anyone? Ew. And size 12??? Man, you are a fatty. You need to lose weight ASAP.
